Weddings in Greece

Greece is a country with a geography like no other. Made up of approximately 1400 islands, Greece boasts the tenth largest coastline of any country in the world meaning that in terms of good quality beaches you are certain to be spoilt for choice.

Athens

Athens, the nation’s capital, boasts some of the most impressive ancient monuments on earth. When combined with stylish cafes and restaurants and elegant shops and boutiques Athens is a wonderful city in which to marry. However, if you are dreaming of the sand between your toes then it is the islands that you really should consider.

Santorini

If you want picture postcard Greece then Santorini is a must. Think of white-washed houses with blue roofs all perched precariously around a sunlit cliff side, capturing the beauty of the natural caldera. The capital of Santorini, Fira (or Thira) is a popular choice for Greek weddings thanks to its outstanding beauty.

Fira, overlooking the caldera

There are a number of chapels and churches dotted around Santorini, some with quite breathtaking Cliffside locations. You can even find one chapel which is built into the cliffside itself. If you do not require a religious wedding then a civil wedding can be organised within Fira and some of the most popular venues include a cliff side restaurant and even a winery! If you want to marry on the beach then head to the elegant resort of Vlyhada.

Kos

Kos is becoming an increasingly popular choice for couples looking to marry abroad, thanks in part to the development of a number of deluxe hotel resorts. However, this island is more than just a home for good quality hotels. It boasts a number of stunning beach resorts and a diverse range of resorts, from the relative seclusion and calm of Tingaki to the hustle and bustle of Kardamena.

Kos Town Hall

Kos Town is the elegant capital of the island and from here you can tie the knot Greek style in the harbour front Town Hall, just yards from the famous tree of Hippocrates. For those looking for a touch of exclusivity then Kos can offer you the chance to marry on the secluded island of St Nicolaos, which boasts its own white washed chapel, just a short boat trip from Kalymnos.

Rhodes

Rhodes, a country of typical Greek beauty, offers you a vast choice of wedding venues from hotel based packages to weddings in pretty little churches surrounded by fragrant flowers and in areas of immense natural beauty.  You are also able to marry directly on the beach in Rhodes, making this a popular choice for couples wanting to marry close to the sea.

Beautiful Rhodes Town

The resort of Lindos is a popular choice, thanks to its abundance of high quality 4 and 5 star hotels and because many of these hotels have been offering wedding packages for a number of years they are completely efficient when it comes to helping you plan your dream day.

Kefalonia

Kefalonia is often described as one of the most beautiful Greek islands, thanks to its lush vegetation, rugged landscape and crystal clear waters. It is emerging as a popular wedding venue for many couples looking for a typically Greek wedding in stunning surroundings. With the major tour operators Kefalonia weddings can take place in venues ranging from the Mayor’s Office in the Town Hall at Skala, the Town Hall at Argostoli or the Town Hall at Sami. You are able to marry on a beach in Kefalonia but for this you may require the services of a more specialised Kefalonian wedding planner.
