Hi Michelle,
Thomas Cook are a great tour operator for weddings and they offer two different webbing brochures; Thomas Cook Weddings and Thomas Cook Signature Weddings.
If you want to get married in Turkey then get yourself a copy of the Thomas Cook Weddings brochure (not the Signature as they don’t offer Turkey in that one).
We have just had a quick look through our copy and can advise that they offer weddings in a number of Turkish resorts including Olu Deniz, Belek, and Marmaris. They even offer weddings onboard a gullet boat so you can marry at sea!
There are a number of hotels to choose from an many are all inclusive. You simply choose the hotel you like and then tag on the wedding package.
Give them a call on 08444 12 59 59 and ask for a copy of the brochure.

We wish you all the best with your planning and for the big day itself!

Hi We have already booked a wedding in May to Mexico, but have just started the paperwork and found that the prices to translate documents are £899, this is on top of the medical items needed, blood test and x rays, we are now being told by the wedding package team, its easier to get married in this counrty and renew vows over there. We dont want to do this so your team suggest its easier to get married in Greece, but your web site is saying its very expensive for translations. we are supposed to get married in about 15 weeks, all this adde stress is not helping. Thomas cook Basingstoke have agreed to cancel the Mexico package at a loss of £100, and re book somewhere in Greece, but im concerned over this translation fee. We were upfront about our budget and we were told translations were £28 for each document, can you help?

Hi Doreen,

I got married with Thomas Cook in Kos and used a translation company they recommended to me. The lady is called Androulla Veliotou and she is an approved Foreign and Commonwealth Office Interpreter, a member of the Linguists Institute and a member of the Translations and Interpreting Institute. Based in the UK, she is able to arrange your wedding documentation, translations and can check that all your documents are in order.

For up to date prices you will need to giver her a call. One thing you do need to remember is the cost of the postage. You need to send all your official doccuments via recorded delivery and this can bump up the cost.

Please call Androulla on 0208 337 6093 to enquire about the price. Do let us know how you get on and where you decide to book in the end. I can certainly recommend the Blue Lagoon in Kos for a holiday and wedding.

A bit more info for you Doreen…

To get married in Greece you need:

* Valid 10 year passports.
* Full birth certificates showing their parents; names. If you do not have the original or do not want to bring the original with you, you can obtain one from the Registrar holding the Register where your birth was recorded.
* Certificate Of No Impediment to Marriage – this has a 90 day expiry date and is only obtainable 90 days before your wedding date.

Documents where applicable:

* Decree absolute bearing court seal,
* Adoption certificate if you are entered into the registry of adopted children.
* Deed poll of change of name.
* Death certificate of deceased spouse.

All documents need to be legalised at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office so that an apostille can be applied. Androulla can undertake this on your behalf, and your documents will now be recognised as legal public documents in Greece.

All your documents, except your passports, need to be translated, which Androulla, as an approved Greek Consulate translator can do.

Finally, all your documents are ready to go the Greek Consulate for verification, where Androulla can act on your behalf.

Hi Annette,
If you opt for Greece you will be spoilt for choice. There are some stunning hotels and beautiful resorts and many of the big tour operators can help you plan a wedding there.
I booked my wedding with Thomas Cook and I have to say they were very helpful. We tied the knot in Kos. Kos Town is ideal for a Greek wedding, although not for a beach wedding.
The cost of the doccuments is cheaper than Mexico and you are not required to take a blood test.
I hope your planning goes well.

Hi,

We are wanting to get married abroad but only want about a 4 hour flight, also I have looked at some packages and dont really know which one suits….. We want the wedding for about 50 people and then the meal and maybe disco also.

Can you recommend a resort as we want 5* all inc, we stayed at the WOW bodrum hotel last year and loved it that sort of place would be great.

Thanks

Cheryl

Hi Cheryl,

There are some superb hotels in Greece, and you can reach most Greek Islands within 4 hours.

I got married in Kos and we stayed at The Blue Lagoon Resort. We arranged everything through Thomas Cook and they were wonderful, both in the UK and in resort.

Here are some great 5* hotels in Greece…
Blue Lagoon Resort, Kos
Atrium Palace Thalasso Spa Resort, Rhodes
Sani Resort, Halkidiki
Iberostar Mirabello Beach Hotel, Crete
If you choose a popular resort you should be able to speak to local bar owners if you would like a disco outside of the hotel. You will find that all of the above hotels would be more than happy to arrange a disco for you and your guests (however, it may be more expensive than using a local bar).

All of the above hotels are available as part of a Thomas Cook wedding package.

Good luck, and enjoy all the planning!

Hi I am looking at getting married in august 2012 in skiathos has anyone got any recommendations of where.

Thanks.

Hi Kirsty,
First of all… Congratulations! Skiathos is a glorious island and makes a stunning wedding destination.

We did a recent blog post on the Skiathos Princess Hotel. Have a look here for a bit of inspiration: Skiathos Princess Blog Post

Thomas Cook certainly offer wedding packages at this hotel – the package starts at £985 (plus the cost of the holiday).

Alternatively, you could consider the Aegean Suites Hotel in Megali Ammos – this is another luxury hotel which offers you the chance to get married in the hotel grounds.

For something a little more affordable try La Piscine Art Hotel in Skiathos Town. This is a smaller hotel than the above two but superbly located. Being in Skiathos Town also offers a wide choice of other hotels for any guests you may be planning to invite.

Good luck – let us know how you are getting on!

Hi,
We would like to get married abroad in 2012 and wondered if you could help with any of the following.
-We may wish to marry with out anyone from home, under these circumstances what could we do about witnesses? (our family bearly talk!!)
-We would like to get married somewhere quaint and small at most including us there would be 9 adults and 5 children, any ideas? not a hotel, and i certainatly do not want to stay at same place as guests. (yes it really is that bad! :) )
-We would like to be as thifty as possible as currently doing up our house and on getting married would like to start a family.
-destination wise we are thinking Europe, very flexible as no preference.
Thank you.

Hi Nat,
To answer your questions:
We may wish to marry with out anyone from home, under these circumstances what could we do about witnesses?
You do not have to take anyone from home with you. If you alert your tour operator before you travel they will arrange witnesses for you in resort.

We would like to get married somewhere quaint and small at most including us there would be 9 adults and 5 children, any ideas? not a hotel, and i certainatly do not want to stay at same place as guests. (yes it really is that bad!)
If you are thinking Med and you want somewhere quiant and non hotel based then how about Greece or Italy? Greece is usually more affordable than Italy and offers some wonderful Town Hall venues where you will marry. After the service you could then head out to a taverna to celebrate with a traditional Greek meal (and you can organise this when you arrive – you will need to be there 7 days before you marry). The Greek people are so hospitable and I know from when I planned my wedding reception in Kos they will go out of there way to look after you and your guests.

If you opt for Italy then Sorrento is a wonderful setting for a wedding, and you can marry in the Cloisters of San Francesco. This is a breathtaking venue and you can arrange this with both Thomas Cook and Kuoni. Again, you will be spoilt for choice with good quality restaurants with glorious views and food.

In both Greece and Italy there are plenty of lovely hotels to choose from, so you could book one and let your guests chose somewhere else (mine didnt and we had 47 friends and family in the same hotel!).

I hope this helps you a little – let us know how you get on!

Paphos is a popular resort for weddings and you have the freedom to choose a town hall wedding, or a ceremony in the grounds of your hotel.
Some of the most popular hotels in Cyprus currently offering wedding packages include:

Athena Beach Hotel
Athena Royal Beach Hotel
Pioneer Beach Hotel
St George Spa and Golf Hotel
Louis Imperial Beach
Avanti Hotel
Riu Cypria Resort

Hi Jim,

As you have already booked your holiday we would suggest giving Thomas Cook a quick call. They may be able to add a wedding package on to your holiday.

You have not mentioned how long your holiday is booked for. It is worth noting that to marry in Turkey you need to be resident there for min 6 working days, so you really need to be on a two week holiday.

Let us klnow how you get on.

Hi,

we want to get married abroad in April 2012, perhaps Cyprus or Tenerife (as that’s where we met 6 years ago!), but i’m having trouble getting the wedding brochure! Everytime I ask it’s not in yet and i’m getting anxious now as I want to start arranging things, cost wise! So, firstly i wondered when the brochures would be out and secondly, i wondered if we actually could get married abroad in April (school holidays as i am a teacher)?

Thanks. Rx

Reply

admin February 24, 2011 at 4:15 pm

Hi Rachel,

To marry in Spain (Tenerife) you need to be a resident of Spain for 12 months. This is why none of the tour operators offer wedding packages there. You can marry over here first and have a blessing in Tenerife but you will need to use a specialist wedding planner.

All the 2011 brochures are now out – have a look through them – they change very little from year to year. April should be no problem, and the weather in Cyprus should be warming up by then.

Good luck

Hi,

I am getting married in mexico in June 2011, i have just phoned thomson weddings 0871 664 0131 who have informed me that unless you have been divorced/name changed/widowed you do not need to change any documents. Is this correct?

Thanks Chris.

Reply

admin February 24, 2011 at 4:11 pm

Hi Chris,

The documentation you will require for your Mexican wedding is as follows:

Birth certificate for both the bride and groom

Valid UK passports for both the bride and groom

Valid Mexican tourist visa for both the bride and groom

Authorised affidavit from notary or solicitor declaring that both the bride and groom are eligible for marriage

If either or both the bride and groom are divorced a Decree of Absolute and an affidavit declaring eligibility to re-marry

If either or both the bride and groom are widowed, the spouses Death Certificate and affidavit declaring eligibility to re-marry

Written consent from parents if either or both the bride or groom are under 18 years old.

You must have Spanish translations of all your paperwork BEFORE YOU TRAVEL. These translations will need to be certified as being true copies of the originals by a Spanish speaking lawyer. After all this has been done, the original documments must be legalised by the British Foreign and Commonwealth office. The approx charge is £28 per document.

If you are unsure about the paperwork side of things I would speak to Thomson again and ask them to email you a definative list of things you are required to take.

Zante is a beautiful country with many superb hotels, perfect for your wedding and honeymoon. However, for something extra special have a look at the Louis Zante Beach or the Iberostar Plagos Beach. Both hotels offer a number of added extras if you are marrying there. Included in your wedding package you will receive:

Welcome drink on arrival
Room upgrade (subject to availability)
Sparking wine, flowers and fruit in your room on arrival
Breakfast in bed on the morning after the wedding
Upgraded bathroom amenities including robes and slippers
Candlelit dinner for 2
Flowers for the ceremony table
Wedding music CD
Local wedding sweets
Local wedding gift

Both hotels are stunning and really do make a dream location for your wedding in Zante. For more info visit http://www.louishotelweddings.com

Have a look – it is always worth dropping a quick email and striking up a rapport with your chosen wedding venue.

I am getting married in Jamaica next year, the only documentation you need is a valid 10 yr passport, birth certificates – no blood tests etc and you need to have them certified by a solicitor. (The requirements are listed in the back of the TC wedding brochure)

Again we looked at Mexico and were put off by the blood tests. Hope this helps you.

Me and my fiance are looking into booking our wedding in Cyprus, we are only in the beginning phases of pricing everything up at the moment. We have picked up a few brochures for this from Thomas Cook and First Choice etc. Before going any further we would like the following things clarifying if at all possible:

1. As part of the wedding packages advertised in the brochures is food included in the price of the package?

2. Is a night time venue provided or an area set aside for the wedding party to use, or can this be provided at a cost?

Thanks in advance

PS The hotels we have looked at so far are Atlantic Aeneas Hotel, Golden Coast Hotel and The Dome Hotel

I want to get married on the beach and it needs to be fairly short haul as we are trying to keep the cost down for our guests though we want to stay/get married in a nice hotel.
I’ve got all the travel agents wedding brochures but they never say if the wedding is held on the beach and how much it is for guests.

hi,

i have my wedding booked for may next year in the olympic lagoon hotel.we have decided to marry in the olympic gardens as we have a large wedding party.we have paid a £100 deposit for this with the price being £969.i was wondering if there is a package included in this as this sound a bit expensive,if so what all does it include.im a bit confused on what i have and what i dont.if i cancel this what would the cost be to just get married in the garden without a package

We wanted to get married aboard in Feb 2012 and would love a beach wedding at that time of year and are planning ONLY the 3 of us to go which includes our 13 month old (Will be that age at that time of year) to be with us. What would be the best option and place for us to get married.
